Welcome!

Hey ya'll!

It’s time to talk about it.

My Dad isn’t doing well, guys. Like, who knows how long he will be able to continue with his health like this kind of bad. He’s wanted to keep it quiet but it’s time to tell the people who care about him what’s going on.

Back in April Daddy’s abdomen got VERY swollen and hard as a rock. He was having other symptoms but the biggest thing was that he had become slightly jaundiced. My sister, Hannah, and I took him to the Emergency Department. They did all of the tests and we were there for almost 3 days. He had to have a blood transfusion because his hemoglobin was apparently way too low, in addition to doing a paracentesis which is where they drain his abdomen.

They took 12.5 LITERS out of that poor man’s abdomen an he looked like a whole new person! We found out that after years and years of drinking beer like, well, let’s just say he’s always been extremely “passionate” about it, he has cirrhosis which is causing ascites (the draining of some kind of fluid into his abdomen because his liver can’t process it). People with ascites have to be drained anywhere from every other day to every few months…some get a permanent drain tube inserted. The crappy part is that the life expectancy after your liver is to the point of doing the ascites thing isn’t great. I’m just preparing myself as best as I can by thinking about the facts the way they are. I worry about my sister…she already lost her mom when she was 16.

Well, Daddy got bad again. Thankfully there was no jaundice this time and his hemoglobin was perfect but he definitely had to be drained. Hannah and I took him yesterday morning and they ended up getting SIXTEEN LITERS this time. He weighed himself when we got home and he’d lost 35 pounds just from getting the fluid gone. He was able to come home same day which made him very happy and today he’s feeling sore and weak, but that’s to be expected, and his spirits are good. Today we started the disability process because currently he has no insurance and after his approval he will.

Trying to get a transplant is kinda pointless with the way things are unfortunately so we’ve just gotta do our best to keep him drained and well for as long as we are lucky enough to. ❤️
